How to get value from E-SOA

My presentation last Friday at our Learning Day was titled: "E-SOA in the real world".

Have you ever seen an End-to-End Enterprise SOA Scenario? No, well you are probably more close to it than you can imagine.
A high-level term taken explained on a deep down level to prove that we can bring E-SOA to live at our customers site.

Key take-a-ways are:

  • E-SOA is a mindshift in thinking and doing
  • Focus on process in stead of technology
  • Facilitate the information workers
  • Quickly follow up on innovations in business processes
  • Think out-of-the SAP box
  • Get your hands dirty

Since 2009 I am a big fan of doing scrum , especially in SAP projects. I know there is a lot of fuzz going on around scrum, again especially in SAP projects ;-) But I am convinced that using scrum will really help you to fulfil your customer needs. Not the needs that have been defined some time ago, but the actual requirements to support business challenges. Requirements that can change along the way, just like business challenges. In the years since 2009 I've done a lot of talks on scrum , coached a lot of projects but 'forgot' to certify myself... So that was my personal challenge early May.

Here we go, Top 10 SAP TechEd topics 2010. Just like in 2009 and in 2008 . Based on the 417 sessions published on the site I counted the hit ratio on the below listed topics. Not to be taken too seriously, just for fun ;-) (1, 1) SAP NetWeaver (93 sessions) (2, 10) Business Objects (45) (3, 6) ABAP (32) (5, 4) BPM (22) (4, 5) BI (18) (-, -) Sybase (17) (-, -) Mobile (15) (-, -) PI (13) (7, 9) Web Dynpro (12) (7, 10) Enterprise services (8) (-,-) Microsoft (8) Runners up : Sybase and mobile applications. Looking forward to play around with that next week. And as predicted : Microsoft. Droppers , not in the Top 10 anymore: Composition Environment (4 sessions, #8 in 2008, #9 in 2009), Java (4 sessions, #3 in 2008, #8 in 2009) and SOA (4 sessions, #2 in 2008, #6 in 2009). Sybase is no surprise. Just as Business Objects wasn't last year. Java dropped out of the Top 10. Looking back at SAP TechEd 2009 you could predict that to happen.
