The Garbage Collector, why we had fun at DemoJam

What an experience - being on stage at DemoJam at SAP TechEd . So totally different than doing a talk here or there. Watch Leo and me doing our #GarbageCollector show: Last week in Madrid Leo and I had our 6 minutes of fame - and we enjoyed every minute of it ;-) Why? We were on stage ! As SAP NetWeaver enthusiast one of the highest things to achieve is being on stage at #DemoJam - really! It was not only geek stuff on stage, we really had a customer business case to replace a cumbersome paper flow process. But of course we gamified this a little bit. Everything worked out technically . The license plate picture got uploaded to the cloud, got analysed, our process was started, the UI5 screens worked out and ... We didn't forget our text :-D Which was quite the opposite compared to our first rehearsal that afternoon, I just couldn't remember my first line ... Just in time - we had all components working together on the Friday before DemoJam Tuesday. We managed ...

SAP TechEd 2012 Top 10

Time to count the votes ;-) This year's SAP TechEd is fully packed with 338 Hands-On Sessions and Lectures. And then I'm not taking into account all the other types 20-minute presentation, 30-minute panel discussion, demo station, demo theater, discussion table, expert networking session, microforum discussion, Q&A, Testdrive area. In total you can choose out of 1353 options. Good luck with that ;-) How is the SAP TechEd Top 10 put together? With the excel download I filtered the Title column on specific keywords, like HANA. For each topic the number of sessions is counted and that delivers a Top 10. 1.        (1,1,1,1) SAP NetWeaver (81) 2.        (4, -, -, -) HANA (59) 3.        (3, 7, -, -) Mobile, mobility, Sybase, Syclo (42) 4.        (-, -, -, -) Cloud (21) 5.        (2, 2, 2, 10) Business Objects (20) 6. ...

SCNotty - here we go again ;-)

SAP TechEd 2012 Madrid - SCNotty - The Dutch SAP Ciber Mafia from sven van leuken on Vimeo . SAP TechEd season is about to start, in one week the US version kicks off. For Europe we still have to wait until November 13. To introduce the Cibererians (or at lease a few of them) we recorded a SCNotty entry. Thanks to Sven van Leuken who came up with the idea, wrote some lyrics, recorded and edited the movie. Looking forward to SCNotty's evening, hosted by Tom Cenens at SAP TechEd. To see who has entered this contest, see the wiki page .

SAP NL Forum, Enterprise Mobility back to earth

Image
This year we did some collaboration with our SRM colleagues. Service lines SAP NetWeaver and SAP SRM came up with the idea to bring Enterprise Mobility back to earth . To show so we found dare-devil-colleague Diederick Bossenbroek who agreed to do some abseiling from SAP HQ NL. Together with Jan Laros they first did a presentation on Enterprise Mobility: Nice hype, but what is Enterprise Mobility? Where do I start? What about security? Can you accompany me, I don't like a ' big bang '. And after convincing Diederick, he came back to earth. More pictures in my Flickr album .

Enterprise mobility app challenge

Image
Last week SAP granted us " Validated Expertise Partner on Enterprise Mobility ". Needless to say that we are very happy with that. A taken of appreciation of all the good work that we do on this area. Which reminds me to remind you our new mobility event on October 11th: " It's APP 2 U ", or on the Twitterverse: #ItsAPP2U . This time we organize an app challenge , send in your idea for an enterprise mobility app. The winner is selected by a Facebook voting mechanism. Everybody is allowed to vote on the ideas, the 3 with the most "Likes" make it to the finals on October 11th. With an explanation of the business case and the enterprise mobility suggestion, a professional jury selects the winner. Ciber NL offers the winner to realize the app for FREE. To do so we plan a geek night together with customer representatives and our mobile experts. Order some cola and pizza and off we go ... It's APP 2 U - Join our Ciber NL app challenge on Enter...

The Garbage Collector - SAP DemoJam 2012 entry

Image
The Garbage Collector - A cloud solution that simplifies your waste administration process. Deliver a simplified waste administration process to truck drivers and weigh bridge operators. See how SAP NetWeaver Cloud with SAP NetWeaver BPM and SAP UI5 actually facilitate a process that usually is handled in all kind of paper documents. The Garbage Collector is a solution for waste companies that want to facilitate their administrative process with their customers. Within a customer self service portal a truck with cargo is pre-announced. At arrival the truck's license plate gets scanned and the appropriate details from SAP will be presented to the operator at the weigh bridge. After the truck is weighed, the weight will be entered into the application and sent to SAP. The process ends with sending an invoice to the customer. In the case a customer order is not present in the backend system, the application triggers a message that the truck is unknown and the customer de...

VNSG DemoJam 2012

Image
A personalized dashboard at a glance What about entering your office in the morning and get a personalized dashboard at a glance? That was our DemoJam idea that we brought to stage at VNSG last week. Our script: Motorman Stoei enters and gets the train schedule presented Manager Broekemans enters and sees the motorman delay dashboard As this is not the first time Stoei has serious delays on his schedule, Broekemans decides to ask for a demotion  HR manager de Vries has the UWL as a personal dashboard and sees the request from Broekemans As she agrees with Broekemans, she approves the request. Within SAP HR Stoei gets demoted When Stoei passes the dashboard again, he notices that he has a new job: moving coals to the oven What did we use: Kinect camera for face recognition Microsoft Visual Studio to build face recognition software SAP HR for organizational structure SAP BO for motorman delay dashboard SAP Portal and UWL for task list A lot of spare time ...

Too many great sessions planned on the same time slot. HANA, Mobility, Gateway, PI / BPM and portal, I feel like a kid in a candy store ;-) Purple - SAP Mentor sessions Green - My talk on SAP and scrum.

The magic of scrum

Image
The magic of scrum Everyone is interested in the golden key to enforce successful projects. Nobody wants to be disappointed with the results after a few months, or even years, hard work. Time to apply some magic to SAP projects? Is that possible? Is scrum the magic word , is it a silver bullet? Why is scrum getting more popular in the SAP world? What do people want to achieve while looking at agile methodologies? According to the 2010 Version One investigation , it is about (amongst others): Accelerate time to market  Enhance ability to manage changing priorities  Improve alignment between IT and business  At talks about applying scrum to the SAP world I often hear the following expectations: Bring in the business!  Enable team spirit  Bring fun to team  It brings opportunities to business  Show software deliveries frequently to all stakeholders  Expectation management, what do I really need  Facilitate delivery process with...

The gamification of Demo Jam

Image
Some Demo Jam thoughts The Demo Jam is a very powerful event at SAP TechEd to show latest innovations by customers, partners and SAP. No sales pitch allowed. No powerpoints or prezis. Just your demo and a timer set at 6 minutes. I even remember some teams doing live coding on stage. The last few years a lot is said on the Demo Jam event. It has become a marketing event for SAP, the rules of the game have been changed, it's only SAP on stage, ... Maybe you can recall the lively twitter stream during and after last year's Demo Jam. Thorsten Franz already wrote a great blog on the Genuine Demo Jam Awesomeness and he refers to another great blog by Michael Koch , What Is Wrong With SAP TechEd Demo Jam 2009 . Please allow me to share some thoughts on the Demo Jam as well. What makes Demo Jam so great? Live shows on stage by fellow SAP NetWeaver enthusiasts , some very serious and others hilarious  Customers, Partners and SAP employees willing to offer spare (own) time t...
